They do appear in the viewport; but they are also there in the render, or at least they are for me.BrianLooney wrote:I have seen this effect too. I think it's only a viewport issue and the strange patterns are not there when rendered.

strange lines upon import to 3ds max
I set a realwave to scale 40x40, dimension 1400, and statistical spectrum waves; then when I simulate and import into 3ds max, I get weird lines on the model. Changing to a new texture doesn't help. I use Windows Vista, 3ds max 2011, and realflow 5. How do I get past this problem? pic of problem: ht...
