Yes, that's possible. First of all, set all simulation nodes to cache to avoid that anything will be overwritten. Then you adjust your wetmaps and re-simulate. Thanks for the specs. When you force quit C4D then this action might be treated as a crash. You can open the Console app from the utilities to see if C4D has filed a report. RF|C4D creates an internal collision geometry from the object for the interaction with particles. When the base object has deformation, PLA, or a change in scale (what's very likely with characters) the collision geometry has to be recalculated during the simulation. Scale was one my suspects from the very beginning. With my C4D boat I was able to get good results - even when I changed scale to 10:1.
