Imported SD Geometry Frozen

Post by Oldcode » Sat Nov 30, 2013 4:06 am

Hello,

After finally solving the viscosity problem that has been haunting me for months, I'm finally moving forward with my project. There are 10 shots that need to be done, and now at last I'm on shot 10, but I've hit a new problem.

This shot is 1500 frames, so its going to take a while. I came home today and checked on the CL simulation. I do this by using the OpenGL preview to create an animation so I can see how its going. When I did this today, I found that from frame 0 to frame 174, the SD Geometry is frozen at the frame 174 position. Now, these frames had already been simulated, so the cached particles files where there, but this seems very odd. Also, it seems to be messing up the positions of the particles in the later frames because the geometry is not where its supposed to be.

I tried recreating the SD file and recreating the scene file while persevering the cached particles, but it made no difference. This happened once before, but that time it didn't get in the way of finishing the actual simulation.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Hi,

I'm trying to recreate the scene file again, to see if there was something I did wrong. Didn't find anything, but for the moment it seems to be working.

I did see something unusual. When I start the Command Line, it give the message...

SD File Frame 1500 overun

Can this be causing the freezing problem?

Hello again,

Well, the probelm is back. :x I'm upto frame 835 on my 1500 frame shot, but from frame 0 to frame 642, the geomtry is frozen again. Because the problem is stopping before the frame I'm currently simulating, I can continue without having to rebuild the scene, but I'd really like to be able to do an entire preview movie so I can see how the whole simulation is going so far, but this freezing of the geomertry does not let me do that! :(

Has anyone seen this problem before? :?

Hey,

do you have the SD file to take a look?. It is very weird. Another thing is you say you are activating the OpenCl and it is not working with SPH, so you don't need to check it.

Please, send the sd to check it out.

Hi Luis,

An interesting thing happened. The problem seems to have corrected itself, for now. I’m thinking the problem has something to do with the first frame/last frame fields. As I said above, I sometimes like to run a preview movie to see if the simulation is doing what I want. Because my shots tend to be long, several hundred if not over a thousand frames, I only do the preview movie on the latest frames that have been simulated. It takes too long to re preview the entire movie. So, if I only want to look at the last 100 frames, I set my start frame accordingly. I think the problem fixed itself when I set the start frame back to Zero and save the file. The next time I opened the file, the geometry was working normally again.

I’ll see if I can send you the SD file, but its over 4gig in size! I’ll try to find a service that will share a file that big. If I can't do that, I'll send you a copy of the preweiw movie showing the frozen geometry.

Thanks,

Hi Luis,

Here's a movie that shows what is going on. In this example, the geometry is frozen for about the first 100 frames, then the rest shows the geometry working again.

After I get home from work tonight, I'll try to find a way to get the SD file to you.

Thanks,

Hey Lewis,

Here's a link to the SD file that I'm using. You need to download all 4 files in order to create the SD file.

Hope you can find a solution.

Hey,

Do I need to register to download the files?. It is the link for the page.

Let me know.

Hi Luis,

Sorry. I checked the link after I sent the replay and it should be working. :? No, you should not have to sign in. That site is blocked while I'm at work. When I get home, I'll post the 4 individual links to each file in the Zip archive.
