Where NOT to store materials

Post by Otuama » Mon Jul 22, 2013 1:06 am

I've just taught myself a lesson..... DON'T store your own Maxwell materials in the Rf install directory if you're ever going to do a clean install. The Maxwell folder will be replaced with the default files.

An extra tip...... make a backup, just in case.

Could maybe an option be added if uninstalling where the user is asked if they also want to have the Maxwell folder deleted?

Hey,

Sorry to hear you lost your materials but it true, you shouldn't save the extra materials or graphs or python scripts in the RealFlow folder because if you uninstall it, you will lost the information. However, you can create an extra folder and when uninstalling, it shouldn't be removed.

So, if I was to create a folder in the Rf installation dir called 'Sean Materials', it shouldn't be deleted?

My materials were in different folders within the materials folder. They were deleted. Annoying Luis, very annoying. :x

Hi,

I know, I know, because I have that problem very often :D. But, the material folder will be deleted even if it has subfolders. Try put put an extra folder in the RealFlow root.

So, you feel my pain then?

The only problem with not putting materials in the 'materials' folders is that they then don't appear in the shader list. You have to use the @file option. So, I may as well not bother then having then in the Rf dir at all.

What would be good is if in prefs there was an option to set your own materials directory, like there is for layouts, graphs etc.

Then, that'd hopefully mean that materials in the folder, set in prefs, for example 'D:\Realflow\My Materials' will be shown in the list.
