Slowdown with textured objects

I've been having a problem where scrolling through the timeline takes quite a while. When changing a frame the scene takes a while to update and then freezes for about 20secs. I thought it was due to me using rigid bodies but after a few tests I've realised that it's because the cached rigid body objects have textures applied to them (not Maxwell texures, the Textures dropdown).
I'm only using the textures so I know what's going on with the scene, so they're not really important but does anyone know how I can keep the textures and not have Rf slow down?
