Killer Whale

Post by frescalus » Sun Oct 06, 2013 3:22 am

Got the scene from luis's blog...
Not meshed yet...
Ocean - 22 million particles 14h 11m 09s
Splash - 0-4k particles 3h 13m 14s
Foam - 0-7.3 million particles 4h 01m 31s
I'll have to see what I need to adjust here...if you have suggestions, let me know

Hey,

Pretty cool!. A couple of questions.

How many steps do you have to simulate? is it by default? 1-3-7? If so, I advice you to set the steps to 1-1-7 so the simulation will take less time to simulate. For this simulation is not necessary to have the maximun steps to 3. Maybe in 6 hours it would be done.

For the video, have you displayed only a % of particles for the main fluid?.

I have it at default, but I will change the settings to see how it comes out...
I have all of the particles displayed for the main fluid...
What I want to do is composite this over live footage when it's done..

Let me actually make a correction, plus I am not quite understanding something...sorry for my ignorance

When you say 1-1-7, that means Min substeps 1, Max 1, and Particle steps 7?

If that's the case, I actually had mine at 1-5-7
I'll turn it down to 1-1-7.. should I leave OpenCL-GPU on? I usually have it on for hybrido sims

Hi frescalus,

It is the custom :). yes, 1-1-7 means Min sub 1, Max sub 1 and Particle Steps 7. Setting 5 for max substeps will take more time to simulate. It means that if the simulation needs to get more steps to simulate, will take the necessary steps you set in Max substeps, but not greater than 5. But I said, for that simulation I think that 1 is enough.

OpenGL is fine, but keep in mind the gpu will be effective if there are millions of particles.

I'm doing a new sim now, 38 million + particles for the core fluid, setting 1-1-7 so we'll see how long that takes...

EDIT: I didn't even realize it but the domain in the first sim was only displaying 10% of the particles..I wasn't even paying attention to that until now...

Is there an issue with hybrido meshing? I'm waiting 20+ minutes regardless of my polygon size and particle radius settings and still doesn't mesh even at the first frame where nothing is happening....

EDIT: Never mind I figured it out... can't mesh when in cache mode...
