Substeps Question - Final results posted on YouTube

Post by JC_Chicago » Tue Nov 02, 2010 8:39 pm

A while back I had posted a question regarding min/max substeps. In the end, I needed "Gus's" help on a model that was leaking everywhere. I thought I'd send a link to the final results (Thanks to Gus and Next Limit) I have posted on YouTube. The 220 hours of simulation time was completed on an 8 core (16 hyperlinked), 3.2 Ghz Mac running Boot Camp, x64 with 16 GB of RAM. Meshing was completed through a command line prompt, and took roughly 60 GB of space. The 6 million particle count is reached near frame 700 - a total of 760 frames were simulated.
The idea behind the animation is showing that water will find any means possible to get to the lowest point, in this case, the floor opening around the stand pipe (sprinkler system) located in the back right corner of the model offered a direct route to the basement.

The final rendering is Mental Ray via Maya.

if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to post them here, or at jchristiansen@halff.com

Jeff
