Adding a mist-emitter to scene increases UI response times

Hi
I have experimented with the mist-emitter for a while. While I did not notice any differences in responsiveness (GUI) during the first tests, I got a problem yesterday. I had a pretty basic setup in higher resolution settings, and when I added a mist emitter (without any simulation done or whatever), the UI is like having millions of particles in the editor, every action like changing values makes the interface freeze for some seconds and then it works again. Same when navigating in the viewport. Navigation --> Freeze --> Change values --> Freeze.......
The only thing that helps is to sett the "visible" option in the display tab of the mist-node to "no". That makes it all normal, but no mist is simulated then...
Any suggestions on a solution?
