Geo in .sd file duplicates itself during sim

Post by mdmcneff » Sat Oct 13, 2012 9:55 am

I exported an animated .sd file of a ship hull from maya. When I import the .sd file into realflow it plays back correctly. However, when I simulate the scene, the geo in the .sd file duplicates and translates itself. The geo also reverses itself and is invisible during the sim, but it does affect the fluid in the sim. When I stop the sim, the geo will snap to the location of the invisible, duplicated, reversed geo.

I'm using a grid domain, with a cube as a grid emitter for the sim. The playback of the sd file is fine, but when I sim it the problem occurs.

Thanks,
Michael

Hi Michael,

what 3D Package did you use for creating and exporting the animation? Are you using the latest plugin for exporting the geometry to SD?

...and did you try re- exporting the scene, maybe after deleting construction history prior to exporting in your 3D Software?

Hi Floriank,

Thanks for your quick reply. I'm exporting from Maya and I am using newest Realflow/Maya plugin.

I'll try deleting the construction history from the object and re-exporting. I had to scale down my geo in Maya prior to export for realflow and I didn't delete the construction history before I exported it out, so that could be the problem.

Thanks for the tip. I'll let you know what happens.

Michael

I tried deleting the model's history in Maya before exporting the .sd out. However, I'm still getting the duplication of the geo during simulation in RF. Very strange.

Hi,

Could you get in touch with our techdesk and send the sd file and also the xml of that scene for us to check?
Cheers,

g-)

Hello Michael,

I guess you have scaled and rotated your object in Maya before exporting to RealFlow. It is a common error for all 3D packages when we are modeling and we made this kind of transformation. When exporting the geometry for using in another software like RealFlow, MudBox, so on. we need to reset its transformations. In Maya it is to apply a free transform. Doing that, we say that the object is not an object, for example, of 100cm scaled by 10, but now, the object has a scale of 1 and the size is correct. So, try to make the free transform for it and let us know.

[SOLVED] Thanks for your reply. In Maya, I froze the transformations of the ship hull and then exported it as a .sd file. This solved the problem.

Thanks!
Michael
