Hi,

after reading the new RFRK2 manual, I got the impression it is still in draft state, not a final manual. Will there be a better manaual in the future?

Hi Florian,

What parts do need improvement in your opinion?

Cheers,

g-)

Hey Gus,

Almost every part is just scratching the surface. Here are some examples where it is very obvious:

1. Using magnitudes for shading

This is one of the "killer features" of RFRK. In the manual, there are some pictures and at the very last page, there is an example for a Maya shading network (only a picture, again). I think it was a great benefit for everyone (especially people who are new to rendering with RFRK) if you added in a more detailed explaination and some workflow examples.

Just take a look at p. 13 and then you probably know why people could feel this is still in draft state...

2. The part on filters and optimization is just a stub. The properties aren't explained at all. And in the pictures, you are using relaxation and tension together. I always thought the one was about the opposite of the other?

3. The part on clouds is virtually explaining nothing. Some pictures again, but no text describing what's "behind" those values.

...I could find many more examples.

I am sorry to say but I must agrea wtih Florian on this. I have tried to use the RFRK 2 that came with my purchase of Real flow 5 but I am finding that I am running my system out of ram on a 8 gig system or I am not getting any meshing at all. So I am sure I am doing things incorrectly. I am hopeing to see in the near future some video tutorials on how how to use RFRK 2 so I can take advantage of what it has to offer until that time I will need to hold of on purchasing more license of RFRK2 for my render nodes.

Hi,

even though I was complaining about the manual (and yes, it still could get better but I guess currently there is just no time for improving that over there in Madrid but probably there will be in the future), I have some good experience in using RFRK2. If you sent me your scenes/ settings I will be glad to help you make your stuff render.

Florian,
Thank you for the offer. I feel I just need to really do my practise with it to get the hang of RFRK 2. I re read the manual again for the fourth time and it is starting to make a little more since to me but as you said the manual is short coming in explaining some of the more important aspects of RFRK and it leads to a lot of waisted time in test rendering to just see what things do. I do feel a video tutorials on all aspects of RFRK are very much needed.

Hi far Star!
Are you using Grid splashes or particles affected by a Morph daemon?
Cheers!

Jorge,
No I am not using the splash or any morphs at this time I am just starting to learn how to use RFRK so I am keeping it simple and using the new domain grid fluid emitter at the moment. For added info I am using Max 2011.
I was not getting any effect and I found out through Next limit I needed to use just the rfrk mesher 2 not the RFRK mesher. The RFRK mesher is just for customers that purchased RFRK. I feel that is something that should be mentioned in the manual.

RFRK mesher is for Render Kit 1 (th old version). So if you purchased that and ant to render a scene with the old render Kit, you need to use the nodes for the old render kit. I think this is evident.
