RF - maya - renderman - channels

Post by glasseye » Wed Jul 20, 2016 3:20 am

greetings,
I'm wanting to create render passes out of the realflow mesh channels such as velocity using a combination of maya and renderman.
Does anyone know of any good tutorials using channels in maya on shaders?
Are there any combinations on technique that don't work I should know about?
cheers

Hi,

Which tools of RealFlow Connect are you using, RFRK or mesh loader ?

If you are using RFRK we export this info to the vertices of the mesh as primitive variables called "velocity" "age" etc...

I'm using both - just trying to get a handle on getting access to the information. I'm working my way through the processes. Using the blind data editor I only see weight and velocity and am trying to use what I can without success yet. bifrost likes to use color sets in its vertex shaders. Thanks for the reply. I'm also having trouble with rfrk in maya 2016 the plugin works in 2015 but errors out in 2016 (using the latest version that should support 2016 - rfconnect-maya-win-2015.0.0.8) The scripts also appear to be older than I'd expect (mid last year).
