What might be quite good for a rendering guide is to have some kind of indication showing the position and direction of the sun. Maybe an object (like a null) with an arrow pointing in the direction. Kind of like Maxwell Studio but a more basic version.

Or, maybe the same if possible with the compass with sun 'dot' and the 'dot' in the scene.

We are thinking if it is possible to have it on fire like Maxwell Studio has in its viewport. We'll check it out.
