Realflow 2.5 HANGS Cinema 4D on exit

Post by Nicholas McMurray » Thu Mar 08, 2018 11:52 pm

Hi

C4D still hangs on exit because of RealFlow 2.5. This was happening under 2.0. I removed all my plugins to see which one was the cause and it was RealFlow.

I made a support case 2 months ago and NL staff mentioned it would be fixed in the next release of the plugin. It doesn't seem to be fixed on my end. Was this known issue addressed in 2.5?
It's rather annoying to have to force quit C4D each time. I'm on Mac OSX 12.6. Anyone else having the same issue, now a fix?

Posting here because not getting answers via support.

Thanks
N

I'm sorry to hear that you didn't get an answer from our tech support. My apologies for that.

I experience crashes from time to time when I close C4D, and this problem has been reproduced by our developers. I'll ask if they are aware of your issue, but I can imagine that both hanging and crashing are related.

Could you please post a few more information about your system (Mac model, GPU, C4D version)? Thanks!

thanks for the reply.

I'm on a 2013 MacPro trash can running 10.2.6, 64Gb Ram, 2 x AMD FirePro D500 3072 MB.
Running C4D R19 .053 and the new RealFlow 2.5 for C4D.
I am also running a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti via Akitio Node Thunderbolt eGPU. This setup has been perfectly stable for me for 3-4 months now. Realflow, TurbulenceFD, Redshift and Octane see and use this eGPU with no problems at all for sims and rendering.

As C4D hangs on exit I don't believe it creates a crash log as it's not a crash(?). I did open the Console and find anything related to C4D but its not clear to me where a hang/crash file would be stored within Console.

Hope you can help me get to the bottom of this.
Thanks
N

Thanks for the specs. When you force quit C4D then this action might be treated as a crash. You can open the Console app from the utilities to see if C4D has filed a report.

Does C4D also hang when the external GTX 1080Ti is detached? It might also be a conflict with Octane. I don't know why, but Octane and RF|C4D aren't very good friends on certain systems. We've fixed many issues already, but it seems as if there's something deep inside we haven't been able to reproduce so far.

Btw, I've found some hang events in the console of my Mac. They're located in the "System Diagnose Reports" on the left (don't know if they're called this way in English, but the real term shouldn't be too far away from that). There I have something like Cinema 4D_2018-03-14-084636_XE_WORKSTATION1.hang. And the report starts with

Code: Select all

Date/Time: 2018-03-14 08:46:07 +0100
OS Version: Mac OS X 10.11.6 (Build 15G18013)
Architecture: x86_64
Report Version: 22

Command: CINEMA 4D
Path: /Applications/MAXON/*/CINEMA 4D.app/Contents/MacOS/CINEMA 4D
Version: 19.1 (19.1)
Parent: launchd [1]
PID: 623

Event: hang
Duration: 4.70s (process was unresponsive for 13 seconds before sampling)
Steps: 47 (100ms sampling interval)
