i am doing some RnD for a project, i might use RealWave with additional SPH particles and RW_object splash.
they work well together, i get some nice ripples on the RW surface and is pretty fast.
however, when i set export central to write TIFF files, even at the standard 64 pixels, RF slows down... a LOT.
my sim was taking about 5 minutes before, and with TIFF export it did 40 frames overnight...
am i doing something wrong or is this a bug?
reason i want a displacement out is that i would use the particle layer ON to mesh splashes + RW and then add the TIFF displacement to get the detail back.

Real Wave + object splash + TIFF = SUPER SLOW

do you have calculate texture turned on? I ran into that not too long ago trying to calculate foam textures and it ridiculously killed the sim times. Not sure if it's 'a bug' or if it's just how it goes.

yes i do, i thouht you had to have that on to be able to export TIFFs....
will try with it off...

you do if trying to do foam in RW. I'm not sure why it kills the sim time so much. Hopefully that'll speed up in rf2013. One workaround I can suggest though is, if you are just going for overall foam and whitecaps, and don't need it in specific regions, to just sim out a quick hybrido mesh at a low res but turn the whitecaps channel on there. Then in your 3D package you can use a Remap Value to pull the whitecaps out of the displacement map and apply that to your Realwave in the 3D app. It's not a perfect solution, but depending on what you need out of the scene, it could save a lot of hours!

thanks!
but i am tring to work out a "fast" way to have an animal in water interacting with it, some ripples and some splashes.

Last summer, I've had a very similar problem. Finally I could drill it down to some CPUs not working perfectly well with certain aspects of Realflow. The RW scene took ages on a relatively fast and modern Dual Hexacore Xeon but worked fast on my i7 Q2670M Notebook, which is much slower by specifications.
