Alembic-Bug?

Post by useruser » Fri May 31, 2013 3:48 pm

Hello,
it looks as if the RF-Alembicimporter have a problem with any kind of simulationdata where the vertexcount changes during the simulation. for example: a tearing Clothsphere as in my first test:

link to the alembicfile:

simulated and exported in C4D.the alembicfile works fine in max and softimage but is completely unusable in RF (Personal Learning Edition)
thank you

Hi,

you are right, RealFlow is crashing if topology of objects imported from an Alembic file changes. It definitively shouldn't crash at all.

However, RealFlow simulations don't work with objects which topology changes along time. Some workarounds that have been used to deal with that are (depending on the purpose):

1 - Managing to bake all the geometry into a non-changing geometry. Depending on your 3D platform it can be a sort of a tedious task.
2 - Removing and reloading the object after every frame change.

We'll try to find the best way to handle this.

Thanks for finding the problem.

Oh, after downloading and testing the file, I see it does not work but there are too many artifacts.
It's behaviour is similar to the one obtained through my first suggestion.

What do you need it for? Liquid interaction?

yes, it is for liquid interaction.
i thought the alembic workflow could be a nice replacement for the current "OBJ-sequence-SimulationPre-script"-workaround.
it seems another issue with caronte is still not solved with RF 2013: the sequence-export of linked highRes-Softbodys does not work.
