Re: Object Clipping

Hi Luis,

I'm actually on the road, I will try and send it to you once I can get a vpn established to my pc (hopefully).
I will say though that is only the first frame.
All I did was bring in a closed version of the cup, in maya I deleted all of the side faces and appended polygon to close the top.

Now my question is, is it deleting faces or is it doing a Boolean making new faces? Better question is, what is it suppose to do?

Hi,

It is removing the faces and adding new vertex.

So if that's the case, then its suppose to be creating new faces...in my case it is not, regardless of what kind of object I'm using to do the clipping.

In my instances, the normals are pointing in the correct direction, but regardless of whether I choose inside or outside, the faces get removed but there are no new vertex/faces being created that I can see, such as the case of the screenshots I posted.

Luis,

you can download from here:

http://www.kirbyfx.com/sceneTransfers/fracture.rar

That should give you all the elements you need although the object will need to be reimported back in the scene. Sorry =(

Luis,

I just tried (VPN into my machine) to do an inside clip with realflow's cube, and the same thing happens. It clips away the mesh that's inside the cube but it does not create new ones.

Is there a setting or something I'm missing?

Hi frescalus,

The problem with the clipping object is the object you are using to clip. It is not valid. You'll need to place the milk_glass without thickness, I mean the object should be completly closed like a cilinder with top and down caps, and then when clipping, you should indicate "InOut clipping" as Outside.

Hi Luis,

thanks for the response. Its an entire sequence though that I need clipping for, not just the beginning. All of my objects are closed, verts are fused, etc, plus there was also the issue of a simple cube created within RF that produced the same result as well.

Have you tried to simulate instead clicking on the button to create the meshes? It is weird because in that way the mesh is working for me.

Let me know.
