Alembic import : intersecting geometry, scaling

I've been playing with alembic exports from modo 701 to RealFlow 2013. I got intersection warnings and a note to increase scale. Oddly, if I try and scale up the geometry, it jumps between that new value and the original value on different frames as I scrub through the timeline. This is with the current 7.1.3.0152 release.

Has anyone else seen this kind of behavior?
